Update From Administrator – August 11, 2020

Our team and I hope this email finds you safe and with fully restored power. We appreciate everyone’s understanding while we battled our own challenges with the loss of power and are grateful to Peter Towey from the Torrington Fire Department and linesmen who worked hard to restore our power in a timely manner.

We are currently in the process of celebrating our version of National Skilled Nursing Care Week which was supposed to be recognized earlier this year but we chose to wait to provide the best experience possible for our residents and staff. We have many fun events planned for all and look forward to sharing pictures throughout the week of the smiling faces. Keep an eye on our Facebook page to enjoy these pictures.

We are happy to report again that we are Covid free! (It never gets old celebrating that 😊) We continue testing our residents on a weekly basis with no new positive results returned. We will be completing another round of testing this week and remain hopeful the trend will continue. As we continue to maintain a Covid free status, we will hopefully be able to reduce restrictions under the guidance of the CDC and CT Department of Public Health to allow residents more time out of their rooms.

Please remember that the outdoor visits must be pre-scheduled to ensure safe and healthy visits for you, the residents, and our staff.  It also allows our team to ensure your loved one is available and ready for your visit to make the most of your time together. These visits require appropriate PPE (masks) to be worn at all times and a social distance of 6 feet between you and your loved ones for the entirety of the visit. If these restrictions pose issues for you please keep in mind that we continue to offer other visitation alternatives like Facetime, Skype and window visits. You can schedule a visit by calling 860-489-5801 or emailing us at recreation@litchfieldwoodshcc.com. All visits should be scheduled through our recreation team so that we can provide the best experience for everyone involved without anyone feeling rushed.

One item that came up for discussion recently was the ability for families to bring food to their loved ones. We are currently permitting families to drop off food but we are not allowing food to be shared or eaten during outdoor visits as this would require masks to be removed. If you are trying to celebrate a milestone by bringing in cake or some other traditional food please let us know and we’d be happy to take a video or pictures to share when your loved one enjoys the item.

Despite minimal participation the past two weeks, we will continue hosting a weekly conference call with our families to keep the lines of communication open. Our next “Town Hall” meeting is scheduled for Thursday August 13th at 1pm. We encourage any residents and family members to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have about the care we are offering. Our commitment is to be as transparent as possible and work to address any issues that arise.

Thank you and please stay safe. I look forward to talking with you Thursday and in the days ahead.
